Down to the last detail

You're planning your wedding and before you know it, it's 2am and you're stuck in a maddening cycle of choosing a font for your wedding invitations and then changing your mind because it just didn't feel right. Maybe you're scrolling Pinterest looking at eight different napkin folds trying to decide which one blends best with the rest of your wedding decor and which one goes with your wedding theme. Or maybe you've painstakingly DIY-ed 150+ favor boxes with pretty ribbons and custom gold wax seals - perhaps I'm speaking from personal experience lol

If you're anything like I was when I was planning our wedding, it's all of the above. Ha! Wedding planning is not for the faint-hearted.

The point I'm trying to make is that you, your fiancé, perhaps your maid of honor, and your mom and dad, put in tireless hours to make sure that every last detail of your day is absolutely perfect.

When the big day arrives, most married people will tell you that it goes by in a beautiful, love-filled blur. And they're right. You might not get the chance to notice what those perfectly folded napkins look like on the tables and it's even less likely that you'll remember what those pretty favor boxes looked like a couple years later. That's why having your photographer document all the details of your day is so important!

While we may be documentary style photographers, we take a more editorial approach to detail shots. We want you to look back at your wedding photos and think "which haute couture magazine are these gorgeous shots from??" From beautiful flat lays to close-ups of your gorgeous new wedding set, we've got you covered!

Interested in having us create the flat lay of your dreams? We offer a custom flay lay package that can be added to any wedding package! Your custom flat lay will include everything you need, curated to match your wedding colors and theme, so that you don't have to worry about a thing.

How can I be prepared for those detail shots? Great question! It's easier than you might think.

Organization is key. And the key to organization is planning in advance.

The week of your wedding, find a box or container that you can store all your goodies in and start filling it up! On the morning of your wedding, your photographer will ask for your smaller detail items and you'll be prepared to hand them off! See the list below for ideas of what to gather for your detail shots.

  • Wedding rings (both yours and your partner's)

    • Be sure to keep these in a safe and secure place, either a pouch or ring box. Once your photographer is done taking pictures of them, they will return your rings to the designated person (oftentimes the maid of honor and best man)!

  • Engagement ring

    • This will likely be on your finger the morning of your wedding - that's ok! When your photographer is ready to begin detail shots, they will come and ask you for it.

  • Wedding invitation (and any envelopes, stamps, RSVP cards etc.)

    • Have a Save the Date you want to include? Add it to the box!

  • Decorative ring box

    • Whether you splurge for the popular velvet "Mrs. Box", a budget-friendly velvet box on Etsy, or an engraved wood box, a decorative ring box really lets your rings shine! Be sure the color either matches or compliments your wedding colors and that the style reflects you. A few of our favorites are linked below!

    • Insider Tip: Consider a single pocket ring box if you just want to highlight your engagement ring, a double pocket if you want to showcase your wedding set, or a triple pocket if you want to display both yours and your fiancé's wedding sets.

  • Decorative ribbon

    • This can match the ribbon around your bridal bouquet or just help create a soft, romantic look to your detail shots. Be sure the color either matches or compliments your wedding colors.

    • Insider Tip: Our favorite ribbon materials are velvet, chiffon, and satin. Velvet looks especially luxe in darker, jewel tones while chiffon and satin go well with softer colors.

  • Wax seal stamp and seals

    • Did you know that wax seals can be made in every color of the rainbow? While gold, silver, and white are the most popular wedding picks, you can choose them in whatever shade you like!

    • Insider Tip: create your own design, perhaps your first name initials or the new last name initial, and learn to make your own wax seals with your fiancé or best friend for a fun pre-wedding activity! You can choose to melt the wax the traditional way with a candle/lighter or for a more DIY-friendly project, get the wax sticks that you can use with a hot glue gun!

  • Antique jewelry dishes and/or trays

    • A classic silver platter with decorative scrollwork exudes romance!

    • Find something you can place all of your items on or something just large enough to fit your earrings in.

    • Insider Tip: Layering and mixing textures is the key to a beautifully balanced flat-lay.

  • Something meaningful

    • Whether it's your grandmother's broach or your father's cufflinks, consider including something unique and special to you. Your wedding day, and the pictures from your wedding, should be a beautiful representation of you and your loved ones!
